Mercy Ministries
The Mercy Ministry is a function of the deacons, as the Book of Church order states: “It is the duty of the deacons to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress. It is their duty also to develop the grace of liberality in the members of the church, to devise effective methods of collecting the gifts of the people, and to distribute these gifts among the objects to which they are contributed”.
The Deacon fund is made up of contributions by the congregation. The Deacon fund is to be used in benevolence, with much of it being distributed within the congregation to support living, transportation, and medical expenses. The fund is also frequently used to grant hardship scholarships for those attending the Michiana Covenant Academy who are unable to cover tuition.
Special offerings are also held from time to time, to support special projects. An example of this occurred in 2020 when the Deacons held an offering for the benefit of a church building project in Sierra Leone.
Many of the mercy ministries occur outside of financial contributions. The church supports the community by providing meals, transportation, and labor whenever a need is seen. An example of this is all the hard work put in by the congregation to support the renovation of the Caylor Houses on Forest Ave.
